5 day Workshop
Figure Painting
August 10 - 14
Thurs - Mon, 10am - 4pm

2637 NE MLK, Portland
(between Russell and Knott)

The focus of this workshop will be painting the figure(s) within the created environment of the painting.

Each day will begin with drawing using various materials working on gesture (the foundation of most figure painting, drawing and sculpture) with some attention to anatomy and form. I encourage an active approach to painting, keeping it full of life and always with attention to values, contrast, the driving force to most successful paintings, then mixing colors that support these values.

We will work with a live, nude model. The model will take shorter poses the first hour allowing us to practice gesture etc with drawing materials. The remainder of the day will be one pose that will continue for the duration of the class allowing your paintings to develop. I encourage you to have at least 2 canvasses or other gessoed supports (wood, watercolor paper) as large as you can manage.

Students may use acrylics or oils, the paints you are most familiar with although, if you are undecided I would nudge you towards acrylic.

Each artist will have an easel and a 24"x48" adjustable height table. A piece of glass works well for palette, or easel pads are fine as well.

See http://williampark.net/classes/FigurePaintingSupplyList2017.pdf for materials list.

Cost of class is $375 plus a Model Fee of $62.50. Total cost $437.50
To reserve a spot please send a $75 deposit (non-refundable within 2 weeks of class), the balance is due on the first day of the class.
